Mystery clip

Neither the speaker in the audio clip below nor the author of this blog is the author of THIS BOOK.

I'm just sort of pondering all this. How do you feel today? If you want to, leave a comment. Also, if anyone requests the source of this clip, I will provide it in comments.

Comments

Hello, Eric (aka "The Owl") --
I found this very interesting, for at least two reasons: 1) the speaker in this clip sounds VERY much like you; 2) the author of THE BOOK has your name, but is a professor at Sheffield University who bears little physical resemblance to you (as I discovered searching around on the net), and 3) it's good to reminds ourselves about our animal nature and identity. In addition to pregnancy, birth, death, and sex (as discussed by the speaker), one of the other processes that most explicitly demonstrates our animal nature, especially our mammalian nature, is lactation. Being able to produce breastmilk and nurse one's child
is a truly transformative experience, which expands one's mind, soul, and connection to life forms in the world. When nursing a baby, the mother is in a very physical relationship of mutual dependence with her baby: the baby needs and desires the mother's milk, and is fed by her; but the mother also needs her baby to nurse regularly, in order to relieve the discomfort of having breasts full of milk. Yup, this is a very physical and animal issue to bring up!

So 'fess up and let us know who the speaker is!

Thanks! -- VJC

Okey doke, it's Jack Kornfield:

The clip comes from a show produced by a public radio performance artist named Joe Frank:

The programs date from the seventies up through 2001 when the show was canceled off of KCRW. Replays are heard on Pacifica, WBEZ in Chicago, and a few other places. (Too risque for Maine.) I usually try to catch one at 12 midnight (eastern) early Monday on WBEZ.

And, Valerie, thanks for thinking that actually could have been moi.
